The Basics:Water on Earth is always changing! Its repeating changes make a cycle. As water goes through this cycle (as shown on the picture to the left), it can be a solid (ice), liquid (water), or gas (water vapor). These changes are known as condensation, precipitation and evaporation! To learn more about the water cycle, please explore the rest of the site. Enjoy!
Important Vocabulary to Know:
Water Cycle - the cycle or processes by which water moves around the earth's oceans, atmosphere, and land involving precipitation as rain and snow, drainage in streams and rivers, and return to the atmosphere by evaporation Water Vapor - water in its vaporous form; a dispersion, in air, of molecules of water, especially as produced byevaporation at ambient temperatures rather than by boiling Evaporation - the changing of a liquid into a gas, often under the influence of heat (as in the boiling of water) Condensation - the conversion of a vapor or a gas into a liquid; water that collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it. Precipitation - rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to the ground from the sky |
